Patient Has Advice That Can Save Your Life

Aortic Aneurysm Specialists Riverview FL

Aortic Aneurysm Repair Riverview patient, Hector, advises all men over the age of 40 to get an aneurysm screening every year by Board Certified Vascular Surgeons because he almost lost his life to an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Aortic aneurysms are known to be silent killers because they can take your life without any warning signs.

Here, Hector shares his story about how Dr. Ken Wright and Dr. Thomas Kerr of The Vein and Vascular Institute saved his life.

Hector's Story

“My name is Hector, I live in Tampa, Florida. Seven years ago, my primary doctor discovered that I have AAA, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and my doctor sent me for an MRI test which was conducted immediately. They referred me to Dr. Thomas Kerr which was my vascular doctor then and he intervened me with a couple of stents two years in a row, but the AAA was still leaking.

So the alternative that was recommended with Dr. Wright was for him to intervene me by opening my chest at that time. From there, I consented to having a second opinion because I was afraid of it.

I had no idea that I had this tremendous disease which is very fatal for most people. And if I didn’t take care of it at that moment…I lectured myself on it, I studied myself on it, I learned a little bit more about the disease. But this disease comes and it’s a silent killer.

Aortic Aneurysm is a silent killer

I advise everyone who is viewing this video…Go to your doctor, have an X-Ray, an MRI, and look for yourself because you can’t see it, you can’t touch it unless you have these types of examinations.

Then, the last resource that I had, Dr. Wright told me, was they had to have an open chest surgery for me. I was very afraid to do it. I consented to do it. I was afraid of leaving my family, my grand daughters and I was afraid to leave this world.

So I was confident that Dr. Wright has a very good practice in that. He made me feel very safe, very comfortable with this situation and they proceeded with the surgery. It was done, performed perfectly. But he did tell me that it was very difficult for him because it was very challenging – one of the most challenging surgeries he’s ever had, especially on a person my age.

Right now, today I am 72 years old, going to be 73 soon, but I’m still here. And thanks to Dr. Wright, I feel comfortable that I can recommend The Vein and Vascular Institute of Tampa to anyone who is watching this video.

Therefore, I’m saying, God bless Dr. Wright – I’m here.”

Dr. Wright Explains Hector's Aneurysm Case

“When I first met Mr. Diaz, we found out through routine follow-up, that his aneurysm, despite repair, was continuing to expand. This meant that we were in need to do a revision surgery.

I sat down with Mr. Diaz and his family, discussed the surgery, the risks, the benefits, and the alternatives, including no surgery at all.

After a long discussion and some thought with them, we opted to proceed with the surgery. Mr. Diaz underwent the surgery, recovered nicely and was back on his feet within a few weeks.”

Hector's Advice

“In addition, it’s important to remember that since this is the “silent killer”. Doctors and scientists say that this is hereditary either from your mother and family. You especially increase your percentage of having this disease if you smoke or you drink. Most people, we take life so simple that we don’t worry about those things.

Especially, most people they think “I have no pain”, well no pain can cause this and can be fatal for you.

Several famous people have died from this disease unexpectedly. Actors have died on stage, singers have died singing, family men have died at the table, collapsing in front of somebody else or collapsing while driving and killing other people.

That’s very important for you to remember. Please do it.

It especially affects men over 40. Don’t wait too long and see your doctor. And have your abdomen checked once a year, at least, and follow the instructions, step by step.

Please, I advise you, every person, especially men…go to see your doctor. Go to see a vascular doctor who is certified like these doctors…Dr. Kerr and Dr. Wright at The Vein and Vascular Institute of Tampa.”

If you are male and over the age of 40, take Hector’s advice. Talk to your doctor about having an aneurysm screening to make sure you haven’t started to develop a potentially fatal aortic aneurysm.

When discovered at its early stages, aortic aneurysm repair can be performed using minimally invasive surgical procedures that require a very small incision and offer quick recovery time.

However, as Hector describes, if discovered at its later stages, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair may require open chest surgery which is much more involved and requires several weeks of recovery.
